Day History
What is Father's Day?
Father's Day is the day we celebrate our dads. It was invented by Sonora Smart Dodd, who was raised by her father, and thought there should be a celebration for our fathers just as there is for our mothers.
Her father was born in June and so she chose to hold the first Father's
Day on June 19th, 1910. President Calvin Coolidge decided to hold Father's
Day on the third Sunday of June, 14 years later.
